It could be anything. When the mission is clear and clearly communicated, it will eventually be embraced by the whole company.<\/p>\n<p>Are these pretty words only? No. A mission serves as a <em>deeper motivation <\/em>for people to contribute to an enterprise. With a clearly defined mission, a company can weather the roughest storm and keep every employee on board. They are words that keep you standing in tough situations.<\/p>\n<h3>Questions for determining a mission<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>What do we stand for?<\/li>\n<li>What are our norms and values?<\/li>\n<li>Which beliefs motivate us?<\/li>\n<li>What is our reason for being?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Keep in mind: a mission is an enduring thing, it doesn\u2019t change yearly.<\/p>\n<h2>What is a vision?<\/h2>\n<p>To clarify the difference between mission and vision: where the former asks you the question \u201cwhat are our values?\u201d, the latter asks \u201cwhat are our goals?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This pulls your company\u2019s dream of the future into the real world. What, specifically, will be your contribution to society? In contrast to the timeless mission, a vision is written for a particular period only. You evaluate and adjust it when necessary. Times and market realities change; so you had better check frequently if what you do is still in line with what you are trying to achieve.<\/p>\n<h3>Questions for determing your vision<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>What do we want to achieve?<\/li>\n<li>How would you like to achieve this?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Finally, that brings us to\u2026<\/p>\n<h2>What are core values?<\/h2>\n<p>If the mission is your \u201cwhy\u201d and the vision your \u201cwhat\u201d, then your core values are best described as your \u201chow\u201d. This usually takes the form of a list of points or terms that reflect what your company deems important in treating customers.<\/p>\n<p>For an insurance company it can be crucial to be \u201cavailable 24\/7\u201d, as an incident requires immediate action. A housing corporation might have \u201csolution-oriented\u201d and \u201csocial responsibility\u201d, or a bank \u201ctransparency\u201d and \u201cfinancial stability\u201d. Each enterprise places its own accent.<\/p>\n<h3>Questions for determining core values<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Use your mission and vision to think about which core values would logically follow from them.<\/li>\n<li>How exactly would you like to do business?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>How all of this leads to your strategy<\/h2>\n<p>The mission is crystal clear. The vision is right there. The core values are determined. Now all that needs to happen is for this dream of the future to come true. To ensure all the earlier work wasn\u2019t done in vain, it is necessary to think about the strategy you will employ.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cPlans are nothing, planning is everything,\u201d<\/em> general and president <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dwight_D._Eisenhower\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dwight D. Eisenhower<\/a><\/strong> said. By formulating clear actions and developing a plan for this, you increase the chances the strategy will actually work.
